Better Work Jordan

Mapping the Sustainability of a Workers’ Center

The main objective of this assignment is to develop a strategy that will be utilized to ensure the long-term sustainability and replication of the Better Work Jordan - ILO pilot project “Humanizing the Zones”, which entails the set up of a workers’ center for foreign workers at the Qualifying Industrial Zones in Irbid. The sustainability plan provides guidance for the center’s staff on how to make the Center sustainable over time as BWJ considers replicating the Centre.

Al Jidara’s work on this project entails mapping the sustainability of the Workers’ Center that BWJ intends to build in Al Hassan Industrial Zone. The assignment requires starting off with a thorough desk and literature review that was presented to BWJ. Data is collected through analyzing best practices, conducting focus group sessions and holding interviews with workers at the QIZ. Consequently, Al Jidara develops a preliminary sustainability plan that includes all findings, proposes a business model and assesses the impact, viability, sustainability, and financial projections for the Centre. Finally, the feedback of BWJ and key stakeholders is utilized to produce a final sustainability plan.

BWJ Program Sustainability Plan

Al Jidara engages in identifying the potential for the long-term sustainability of the Better Work Jordan program in order to develop a comprehensive strategy that establishes the basis for the program’s long-term sustainability, and identifies the steps needed to achieve this goal. The plan mainly encompasses political, financial, and managerial aspects of program.

Al Jidara was requested to map out a plan for the sustainability of Better Work Jordan once the program ends. Data is collected through conducting interviews, group meetings, and surveys. Also, a wide range of stakeholders, including the Ministry of Labor, international buyers, employers, and the Labor Union are interviewed. Using this information, the consulting team is able to perform a SWOT analysis exercise that contributes to the development of the sustainability plan.  Al Jidara then develops a Five-Year Sustainability Plan for the localized program and ensures that it expands on the Better Work Global Program. The team of consultants reviews the political, financial, and managerial viability of the entity.  They also analyze the legal and regulatory status of the localized program in terms of ownership, management, legal provisions required to receive funding from employers, government, and donor agencies
