USAID Tawazon – Promoting the Voice and Leadership of Women (PVLW) (2022 – 2027)

Gender Empowerment

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Tawazon provides a critical opportunity to establish a partnership that shares power, authority, commitment, accountability, and resources. This partnership aims to elevate Jordanian voices and progress in economic, social, and political support for women. Tawazon builds on the successes and learning of women's activism, empowerment, economic development, and gender equality programs. It leverages the significant capacities, knowledge, and experiences of the government, the private sector, CSOs, and activists to sustain hard-fought gains and increase impact. The USAID Tawazon activity focuses on strengthening legislative framework enforcement, institutional capacity, promoting inclusive social norms, and enhancing women's skills and opportunities for voice and leadership.

With support from Mercy Corps, Al-Jidara is leading activities to strengthen targeted Government of Jordan (GOJ) institutions to design, implement, and oversee the implementation of the National Strategy for Women (NSW). This includes efforts to strengthen the institutional capacity of selected GOJ ministries. To ensure that the selected governmental institutions actively meet their country and global gender equality commitments, Al-Jidara is enhancing the institutional capacity of GOJ operating units in areas such as institutional performance, human resources, code of conduct, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E). Al-Jidara will conduct a program rapid assessment to understand existing strategies, plans, interventions, areas requiring support, and the nature of resistance to gender equality. The goal is to support the GOJ gender units in implementing and monitoring gender strategies in line with the NSW or supporting the development of gender strategies.

Al Jidara collaborates with The Jordan National Commission for Women (JNCW) and the Inter-Ministerial Committee (IMC). Their joint efforts start with a comprehensive assessment review of capabilities, policies, resources, and priorities in conjunction with JNCW. This assessment serves as the foundation for developing institutional capacity strengthening plans in collaboration with targeted Ministries. The aim is to enhance the visibility, awareness, and mandate of JNCW among key stakeholders in Amman and the governorates. Through targeted engagement with relevant Government of Jordan (GoJ) institutions, they work closely with both IMC and JNCW to identify critical leadership pathways and the necessary skills and opportunities for emerging women leaders. The selection of institutions is based on agreed-upon criteria established in collaboration with USAID. This document serves as a comprehensive resource, outlining the selection criteria's objectives, detailed information, and a comprehensive list of the institutions that will be targeted
