The Local Health System Sustainability Project (LHSS) under the USAID Integrated Health Systems IDIQ (2023 – 2024)

Organizational Effectiveness

LHSS under the USAID Integrated Health Systems IDIQ, facilitates the transition of low- and middle-income countries towards sustainable, self-financed health systems to support universal health coverage. Collaborating with partner nations and local stakeholders, the project focuses on reducing financial barriers to healthcare and treatment, ensuring equitable access to vital health services, and enhancing the overall quality of health services. Led by Abt Associates, this five-year initiative aims to strengthen local capacity to sustain strong health system performance.

This grant aims to contribute to LHSS Jordan's Objective 1, focusing on establishing a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) system by strengthening the Ministry of Health's capacity to create and distribute Human Resource policies related to gender equality to increase access to CPD activities and promote the advancement of women healthcare providers. The overall objectives include conducting a needs assessment for working women in the public health sector and provide recommendations to the MOH-Gender Advisory Committee to promote gender equality and social inclusion in the health workforce.

Al Jidara achieved the overall objectives and outcomes of the activity through a four-stage model, prior to providing recommendations and an action plan, the four-stage model encompassed conducting a desk review and institutional research, needs assessment through FGD & KIIs with diverse sample, review of HR policies and practices and benchmarking best practices regionally, and finally delivered a TOT to focal points on gender skills, gender equality, and social inclusion.
