Trade Prospects with African Countries

To support DAI in the implementation of the Jordan Competitiveness Program by studying the African Continent and identifying prospects for enhancing trade relations between Jordan and the African Countries with a view for signing a bilateral FTA (Free trade agreement) agreements with high prospect countries, and identifying potentials for enhanced trade with selected African Countries.

The study was conducted in response to a request by the Jordanian Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply (MITS) and funded by the USAID-Jordan Competitiveness Program (JCP). The main objective of this trade prospects study was to identify five export destinations in Africa, and guide the Government of Jordan in trade negotiations with those chosen countries.

Al Jidara, in collaboration with the US-based Manchester Trade Ltd. performed a rigorous research and consultative exercise to identify a list of goods and services that Jordan could potentially export to select African Markets. Key stakeholders from the Jordanian private and public sectors were extensively engaged to generate a specific list of manufactured goods and sub services. Additionally, a comprehensive selection criteria was devised to facilitate the selection and identification of key African export markets. The study also analyzed the current draft agreements with the selected markets, and provided detailed trade negotiation strategies with those chosen countries. The study also included an extensive PESTLE analysis for each of the selected markets, as well as detailed country export guides providing a step-by-step process for industrialists and service providers to penetrate these new markets.
